Mystery Play Internet Radio

Old Time Radio Lives Here!

Mystery Play Internet Radio has been broadcasting old-time radio on the internet for 22 years. MPIR has evolved from simple playlists of mp3 formatted radio plays to sophisticated live stream programming to net casting on various listening devices. Clyde J. Kell the owner and operator of Mystery Play Internet Radio has only one purpose and passion. To enable as many people as possible from all over the world to listen and share old-time radio. My creativity now extends to creating visual art in acrylic, oil, watercolor, and pen and ink illustrations.

Whats Going On!

Hello MPIR Fans,
The Mystery stream is updated and featuring the "Battling Radio Detectives", Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator, Boston Blackie, Box 13, Casey Crime Photograher, The Adventures of Frank Race, Let George Do it, The New Adventures of Nero Wolf, Nick Carter Master Detective, Pat Novak for Hire, The Adventures of Philip Marlowe, Richard Diamond Private Detective, The Adventures of Sam Spade, and Yours Truly Johnny Dollar.

More about these gumshoes in a minute!

I don't remember if I posted in my last message about my new adventure of creating works of art? Anyhow, it's the fault of my daughters, they motivated me, and pushed me into this process. It's wonderful! I am truly in heaven, picture this. About three or four days a week during the night and early mornings. I am sitting next to my computer with a reference photograph up on the screen, and an mp3 player WinAmp playing old time radio programs. The creative juices are flowing, and life is beautiful!

When I decided to start painting and drawing again. I searched YouTube and found art instruction video's and reviewed technique, color mixing etc. to get the old brain cells sparking again. I also came across video's promoting the art revolution, selling your art work on-line. Anti-establishment artists going there own way and creating works of art they loved and able to share with the entire world. Could it be, has another childhood dream come true? Maybe! Anyhow I have only two serious passions in this life, my art and old time radio and it is a real pleasure to share them. If I can sell something, ok, if not, ok I'll still keep on painting.

It's so damn fun! I'm working on two series, of water colors with pen & ink. My favorite locations around Naples Italy, and portraits of my favorite old time radio characters. My first two, Sam Spade, and Philip Marlowe. I think I captured Howard Duff correctly, you be the judge? But I had trouble with Gerald Mohr as Philip Marlowe. These are hard, drawing a portrait that is recognized is very hard! It took me 6 hours to complete each one... Geesh!

You can take a peek here and let me know what your think.

Now back to the Gumshoes playing on the Mystery stream.

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator was a detective drama heard on NBC Radio from October 3, 1951 to June 30, 1955.Detective Barrie Craig (William Gargan) worked alone from his Madison Avenue office. Unlike his contemporaries Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe, Craig had a laid-back personality, somewhat cutting against the popular hard-boiled detective stereotype.

Box 13 was a syndicated radio series about the escapades of newspaperman-turned-mystery novelist Dan Holiday, played by film star Alan Ladd. To seek out new ideas for his fiction, Holliday ran a classified ad in the Star-Times newspaper where he formerly worked: "Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything -- write Box 13, Star-Times". The stories followed Holliday's adventures when he responded to the letters sent to him by such people as a psycho killer and various victims.

Boston Blackie is a fictional character created by author Jack Boyle (October 19, 1881 – October 1928). Blackie, a jewel thief and safecracker in Boyle's stories, became a detective in adaptations for films, radio and television an "enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend."

Casey, Crime Photographer had more history than substance. It was a B-grade radio detective ona par perhaps with The Falcon, better than Mr Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons, but lacking the style and polish of The Adventures of Sam Spade.

Creative Works

Hello MPIR Fans & New Creative Art Friends,
Yes, after pushing, and encouragement from my adult daughters I've started the adventure of creating works of art. Something that I misplaced for 26 years! My daughters reminded when they were young I would create drawings and coloring pages for them. However with life, and what not, and separation the art was lost.

Since last year the relationship with my daughters has been re-invigorated and well it's just wonderful, what more can I say. Enough rambling, now to the nitty gritty as they say.

With-in the past two weeks I have created 7 pieces of work, however only three are what I consider suitable for sale and digital photos uploaded to Artpal for print making. My plan is to create five or six works of art each week, for now water color and pen & ink.

According to my kids, now is my time! They're right, I'm semi-retired due to heath issues, so a new adventure and possibly make a little money at it.
