Featuring on MPIR
For the next three or four days we are featuring the following excellent old time radio shows.
Escape 1947 - 1954 brings together everything that was good about old-time radio drama rolled into one. The title itself almost sums up the very essence of what radio drama is all about. Each of the episodes was a micro drama carefully planned to capture the listeners attention for thirty minutes. "Tired of the everyday grind? Ever dream of a life of romantic adventure? Want to get away from it all? We offer you ... ESCAPE!"
21st Precinct 1953 - 1956 was a very dramatic police drama. CBS decided to use New York City as the backdrop for this series and to focus on the happenings in an actual police precinct. The premise was to put the listener into the drama from the opening phone call until the final report was written. "Just lines on a map of the city of New York. Most of the 173,000 people wedged into the nine-tenths of a square mile between Fifth Avenue and the East River wouldn't know if you asked them that they lived or worked in the 21st."
Big Story 1947 - 1955 featured murder and other violent crime cases from the point of view of a newspaper reporter.
Inner Sanctum Mysteries 1941 - 1952 This anthology series featured stories of mystery, terror and suspense, and its tongue-in-cheek introductions. The early 1940s programs opened with Raymond Edward Johnson introducing himself as, "Your host, Raymond," in a mocking sardonic voice. A spooky melodramatic organ score punctuated Raymond's many morbid jokes and playful puns.
