Harold Peary Radio Tribute

Hello MPIR Fans and Friends,
It's a Happy Birthday tribute to Harold (Hal) Peary on the MPIR Comedy stream.

Harold (Hal) Peary (July 25, 1908 – March 30, 1985) was an American actor, comedian and singer in radio, film, television and animation remembered best as Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a supporting character on radio's Fibber McGee & Molly that moved to its own radio hit, The Great Gildersleeve, the first known spinoff hit in American broadcasting history.

A listener requested The Arthur Godfrey show, and I always try to honor all requests. The MPIR Comedy stream is featuring a few episodes for your listening enjoyment. Usually I play Arthur Godfrey on the MPIR History Capsule stream, if you want more Godfrey you can find them there all for your listening enjoyment.

Arthur Morton Godfrey (August 31, 1903 – March 16, 1983) was an American radio and television broadcaster and entertainer who was sometimes introduced by his nickname, The Old Redhead. At the peak of his success, Godfrey helmed two CBS-TV weekly series and a daily 90-minute television mid-morning show, but, by the early 1960s, his presence had been reduced to hosting the occasional TV special and his daily network radio show.

One of the medium's early master commercial pitchmen, he was strongly identified with many of his sponsors, especially Chesterfield cigarettes and Lipton Tea. Having advertised Chesterfield for many years, during which time he devised the slogan "Buy 'em by the carton", Godfrey terminated his relationship with the company after he quit smoking, five years before he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1959. Subsequently, he became a prominent spokesman for anti-smoking education.

The MPIR Comedy stream is also featuring episodes of Fibber McGee & Molly, It's Higgins Sir, Our Miss Brooks, and Groucho Marx of You Bet Your Life.

The MPIR History Capsule is featuring the following: AFRTS If Freedom Fails, Arthur Godfrey Show, Calvacade America, Command Performance, Country Music Time, Grand Ole Opry, Inheritance, Soldiers Of The Press, CBS You Are There.

Please keep me in mind for a donation to keep the lights on and servers running hot with
great entertainment. Any amount will help, thank you.
